Combining Horror and Cartoons
I love horror. I don’t know if I told you that, and I love cartoons. So logically, I would love the two things coming together, and actually, I do. Toony Terrors is a line of figures that NECA has been doing for several years, and I’m in love with them. Basically, what NECA did is take all the horror licenses they have and make them into an animated style form, which I love.
You know the Evil Dead Ash, we get Jason Voorhees, we get Michael Myers, we get the kids from Halloween. We have a brand new set from American Werewolf in London, which is incredible. There’s something about it that just makes me happy. They’re kind of like a claymation style, that’s kind of what they look like. There’s a little bit of articulation to some of them. They’ve done a lot of characters so far, and it’s going to keep going with the animated sequence in the Star Wars holiday special and the droids and Ewok series.
It seemed natural to me that we should get some in-between, and everybody loves the original films the most. Let’s do something. Anyway, that’s kind of what this reminds me of, if only so.
Brilliant Design and Available Figures
All of these figures are kind of as if they were animated versions of all these horror films around, this is what they look like. I’ve never looked at any of these animated designs and say “yeah, that’s not quite right”. Case in point, dead Jack and the Kessler werewolf from Toony Terrors from NECA. These are brilliant. This box that just came out, I think it’s fantastic.
All of these are available, of course, on the Entertainment Earth website, and it’s going to keep going. I saw ones for Hocus Pocus. They’ve done Beetlejuice. I think they did stuff for The Thing. Maybe they did a Kurt Russell that I’m unaware of that I don’t have, but I’ve got more of these than I care to admit.
There’s something about them. You can imagine that there’s an animated universe with all these classic horror characters because some of them are classic even though they’re still going, like Halloween, and they’re all kind of hanging around in the commissary talking about their shows. I love it. I just think it’s really simple and kind of beautiful.
Favorite Toony Terrors
They even did one for Jaws with the shark, Bruce, eating Quint. I mean, come on, fantastic. These are one of my new favorite things, Toony Terrors. I’ve been getting them for a few years, and as I look around, I go, man, I have more of these than I thought.
But if you’re going to go make cartoon versions of characters from An American Werewolf in London, you better believe I’m gonna get them.
