3 Things You Didn’t Know about Deadpool 2’s Domino

Deadpool 2 is here and this time the Merc with a Mouth is bringing some old friends along with him. We’ll be introduced to some of X-Force’s finest including Shatterstar, Bedlam, and Cable. But before heading to your local theater, let’s all get to know the unsung hero of the team, Domino, a little better.

THE CREATION OF DOMINO

Created by Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza, Neena Thurman (aka Domino) made her “official” first appearance in The New Mutants #98 (February 1991) – it was later shown to be the mutant Copycat impersonating her at the time. X-Force #8 (March 1992) was her true first appearance. She’s been a prominent member of the X-Force, as well as a member of the X-Men. Domino was a part of a top-secret government breeding program intent on developing the perfect weapon. Much like a few of her X-Force buddies, she was the only member to survive the program.

As a mercenary, she first met the time-traveling mutant, Cable, and eventually became his love interest. Her adventures have also led her to work with prominent Marvel characters such as Wolverine, Storm, and even the uber-powerful Vanisher (inside joke for those of you who have seen Deadpool 2).

HER SUPERPOWER IS LUCK

Domino’s mutant powers allow her to subliminally affect probability around her. Simply put,  she’s lucky. The full extent of her power is still unknown but it does make for some pretty awesome action sequences. She’s also a master marksman and expert martial artist. Domino has a signature black birthmark around her left eye. She’s also usually depicted as being very, very white in the comics which really hasn’t been fully explained. Sometimes she’s a normal human color, other times she’s a pale white, which could be due to her mutation.

THE CINEMATIC VERSION OF DOMINO

When we meet Domino (Zazie Beetz) in Deadpool 2, she retains her very mutant powers from comic books. The Deadpool sequel marks her first live-action appearance, which she steals the show. An X-Force film has been announced with no release date but the film will start production in October 2018. Lately, Marvel has been churning out some great cinematic versions of their powerful female characters like Hela, Valkyrie, Black Widow, Gamora and even Mantis and now you can add Domino to that list of show-stealing leading ladies.
